PHENTA COLD TABLET

Each Uncoated Tablet Contains:

Paracetamol IP 500 mg, Phenylepherine HCL IP 10 mg,Chlorpheniramine Maleate IP 2 mg.

Phenta Cold Tablet is a combination medication commonly used for managing symptoms associated with the common cold, flu, and allergies. 

Composition of Phenta Cold Tablet:

  • Paracetamol (500 mg) – An analgesic and antipyretic (pain reliever and fever reducer).
  • Phenylephrine (10 mg) – A decongestant used to relieve nasal congestion.
  • Chlorpheniramine Maleate (2 mg) – An antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of allergy such as runny nose, sneezing, and itching.

Uses:

Phenta Cold Tablet is commonly used to treat:

  • Common Cold
  • Flu Symptoms
  • Nasal Congestion
  • Sinus Congestion
  • Allergy Symptoms (such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy throat)
  • Headaches and Fever (due to paracetamol)

Indications:

  • Relief of nasal congestion and sinus pressure.
  • Treatment of symptoms associated with the common cold, such as runny nose, sneezing, and fever.
  • Treatment of allergic rhinitis, hay fever, and other upper respiratory tract conditions.

Dosage:

  • Adults: Typically, 1 tablet every 4 to 6 hours, as needed. Do not exceed 4 tablets in 24 hours unless advised by a doctor.
  • Children: The dosage for children should be determined by a healthcare provider based on age and weight.

Mechanism of Action:

  • Paracetamol acts as an analgesic and antipyretic by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins (chemicals in the body that cause pain and fever).
  • Phenylephrine is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic agonist that causes vasoconstriction, helping to reduce nasal and sinus congestion.
  • Chlorpheniramine Maleate is an antihistamine that blocks histamine receptors, reducing symptoms such as sneezing, itching, and watery eyes.

Side Effects:

Common side effects may include:

  • Drowsiness or sedation (due to Chlorpheniramine)
  • Dry mouth or throat
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Nausea or upset stomach
  • Increased heart rate (from Phenylephrine)
  • Blurred vision

Serious side effects (rare) may include:

  • Allergic reactions such as rash, itching, or swelling.
  • Difficulty breathing (from a severe allergic reaction).
  • Severe dizziness or fainting.

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients (Paracetamol, Phenylephrine, or Chlorpheniramine).
  • Severe liver disease (due to paracetamol).
  • Severe hypertension (due to Phenylephrine’s vasoconstrictive effect).
  • Glaucoma (due to the antihistamine component, Chlorpheniramine).
  • Pregnancy: It is generally advised to consult with a healthcare provider before use during pregnancy.
  • Breastfeeding: Use with caution, as Chlorpheniramine can pass into breast milk.

Drug Interactions:

Phenta Cold Tablet may interact with the following:

  • Other CNS depressants (e.g., alcohol, sedatives, or tranquilizers) may cause excessive drowsiness or sedation.
  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs): Should not be used in combination with MAOIs due to the risk of hypertensive crisis (for Phenylephrine).
  • Antihypertensive drugs: Phenylephrine may counteract the effect of blood pressure-lowering medications.
  • Other drugs containing paracetamol: Avoid taking multiple medications containing paracetamol to prevent an overdose.
