TRACOLUS 100 Capsule contains 100 mg of Itraconazole, a synthetic triazole antifungal agent used to treat various fungal infections.

Indications:

Itraconazole is prescribed for treating:

• Dermatophytosis
• Onycomycosis
• Tinea versicolor
• Cutaneous Candidiasis
• Oropharyngeal Candidiasis
• Vulvovaginal Candidiasis
• Chronic mucocutaneous Candidiasis
• Oculomycoses
• Systemic mycosis

Dosage:

The dosage varies based on the specific infection:

• Onycomycosis: 200 mg daily for 3-5 months or 400 mg daily for one week per month over three consecutive months.
• Candidiasis of the nail: 200 mg daily for 3-5 months or 400 mg daily for one week per month over three consecutive months.
• Tinea capitis: 100 mg once daily for 4 weeks.
• Tinea pedis: 100 mg daily for 30 days or 200 mg twice daily for 7 days.
• Tinea corporis/cruris: 100 mg daily for 15 days or 200 mg daily for 7 days.
• Pityriasis versicolor (chronic/recurrent): 200 mg daily for 7 days.
• Mucocutaneous Candidiasis: 200 mg daily for 5-7 days.
• Vulvovaginal Candidiasis: 200 mg twice daily for 1 day.

Mechanism of Action:

Itraconazole inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of fungal cell membranes, leading to increased membrane permeability and ultimately, fungal cell death.

Side Effects:

Common side effects may include:

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Rash
• Dizziness
• Itching
• Swelling of the legs (pedal edema)
• Vertigo
• Abnormal sensations (paresthesia)
• Impotence
• Loss of libido

Serious side effects, though rare, can involve liver toxicity, including fatal acute liver failure. Monitoring liver function during treatment is advisable.

Contraindications:

Itraconazole is contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to Itraconazole or other azole antifungal.

Drug Interactions:
