TRACOLUS 200 Capsule (Itraconazole 200 mg)

TRACOLUS 200 Capsules contain 200 mg of itraconazole, a synthetic triazole antifungal agent used to treat various fungal infections.

Uses and Indications:

Itraconazole is prescribed for:

  • Dermatophytoses

  • Onychomycoses

  • Tinea versicolor

  • Cutaneous candidiasis

  • Oropharyngeal candidiasis

  • Vulvovaginal candidiasis

  • Chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis

  • Oculomycoses

  • Systemic mycosis

Dosage:

The typical dosage varies based on the infection type:

  • Onychomycosis: 200 mg daily for 3-5 months or 400 mg daily for one week per month over three consecutive months.

  • Candidiasis of Nail: 200 mg daily for 3-5 months or 400 mg daily for one week per month over three consecutive months.

  • Tinea Capitis: 100 mg once daily for 4 weeks.

  • Tinea Corporis/Tinea Cruris: 100 mg daily for 15 days or 200 mg daily for 7 days.

  • Mucocutaneous Candidiasis: 200 mg daily for 5-7 days.

  • Tinea Pedis: 100 mg daily for 30 days or 200 mg twice daily for 7 days.

  • Pityriasis Versicolor (Chronic/Recurrent): 200 mg daily for 7 days.

  • Vulvovaginal Candidiasis: 200 mg twice daily for 1 day.

Mechanism of Action:

Itraconazole works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of fungal cell membranes, leading to cell membrane destruction and cessation of fungal growth.

Side Effects:

Common side effects may include:

  • Nausea

  • Vomiting

  • Rash

  • Pruritus (itching)

  • Vertigo

  • Pedal edema (swelling of the feet)

  • Depression

  • Dizziness

  • Loss of libido

  • Paresthesia (tingling sensation)

  • Impotence

Contraindications:

Itraconazole is contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to azole antifungal.

Drug Interactions:

Itraconazole may interact with:

  • Terfenadine

  • Astemizole

  • Cycloserine

  • Digoxin

  • Phenytoin

  • Oral anticoagulants

  • Rifampicin

  • H2 antagonists
