The combination of Ambroxol (7.5 mg), Levosalbutamol (0.25 mg), and Guaifenesin (12.5 mg) is typically used as an expectorant and bronchodilator in the management of respiratory conditions associated with bronchospasm, cough, and mucus production.

Uses of Astagon LS Drops

  1. Indications:
    • Acute and chronic bronchitis
    • Asthma with mucus hypersecretion
    • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
    • Respiratory tract infections with productive cough
    • Cough associated with bronchospasm

Mechanism of Action of Ambroxol, Levosalbutamol, Guaifenesin Drops

  1. Ambroxol (7.5 mg):
    • A mucolytic agent that reduces the viscosity of sputum by breaking down mucopolysaccharide fibers.
    • Stimulates the production of surfactant, enhancing mucociliary clearance.
  2. Levosalbutamol (0.25 mg):
    • A selective beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist that relaxes bronchial smooth muscles, resulting in bronchodilation.
    • Improves airflow and relieves bronchospasm.
  3. Guaifenesin (12.5 mg):
    • An expectorant that increases the volume and reduces the viscosity of mucus.
    • Facilitates the clearance of mucus from the airways, easing productive cough.

Dosage of Ambroxol, Levosalbutamol, Guaifenesin Drops

  • Adults: Typically taken 2-3 times a day based on the formulation and severity of symptoms. Always follow the prescribed dose.
  • Pediatric Dosage: Adjusted based on age and weight. Consult a pediatrician.
  • Administration: Oral; can be taken with or without food. Adequate hydration enhances its effectiveness.

  • Severe cardiac diseases (e.g., arrhythmias, ischemic heart disease).
  • Hyperthyroidism (due to the risk of exacerbation with Levosalbutamol).
  • Peptic ulcer (caution with Guaifenesin).

Drug Interactions of Astagon LS Drops

  1. Levosalbutamol:
    • Interaction with beta-blockers (e.g., propranolol) may reduce its bronchodilatory effect.
    • Caution with other sympathomimetics due to the risk of additive cardiovascular effects.
  2. Ambroxol:
    • No major interactions; however, avoid co-administration with antitussives (cough suppressants) that can inhibit mucus clearance.
  3. Guaifenesin:
    • Minimal interactions; excessive use with CNS depressants (alcohol, sedatives) may exacerbate drowsiness.

Precautions of Astagon LS Drops

  • Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic or renal impairment.
