Betahistine Uses / Uses Of Betahistine 8mg:
Betahistine is used for Vertigo and Meniere's disease. It helps to reduce the episodes of vertigo associated with Meniere's disease.
Betahistine is used in the treatment of vertigo or sometimes in balance disorders.
How Betahistine works:
Betahistine is a histamine analog. It works by improving the blood flow in the inner ear which reduces the pressure of excess fluid there. Excess fluid can send signals to the brain causing nausea, dizziness or spinning sensations (symptoms of Ménière's disease). Betahistine additionally dampens down the nerve signals sent from the inner ear to the brain relieving the symptoms of Ménière's disease.
Common side effects of Betahistine:
Headache, Indigestion, Nausea, Stomach pain, Bloating, Rash, pruritus, urticaria, dyspepsia, peptic ulcer disease
Drug Interactions Of Betahistine 8 mg:
May antagonise antihistamines. May decrease bronchodilator effects of β-2 agonists.
Contraindications Of Betahistine 8 mg:
Phaeochromocytoma. Porphyria.
Mechanism Of Action Of Betahistine 8 mg:
Betahistine improves the microcirculation in the labyrinth which reduces endolymphatic pressure. Absorption: Rapid and complete. Metabolism: Hepatic. Excretion: Urine (as inactive metabolites); 3.4 hr (elimination half-life).
Special Precautions For Betahistine 8 mg:
Active peptic ulcer, bronchial asthma, pregnancy and lactation.
