Olanzapine

It is an antipsychotic agent belonging to thiobenzodiazepine class.

Indications of Olanzapine

Schizophrenia.

Dosage of Olanzapine

Adults: 10mg daily, adjusted to usual range of 5-20mg daily. Doses 15mg daily or more only after re-assessment.

Contra-Indications of Olanzapine

Angle closure glaucoma. Known hypersensitivity to olanzepine.

Side Effects of Olanzapine

Orthostatic hyptension, interference with motor and cognitive performance, increase in transaminase levels. Occasionally dizziness and peripheral oedema. Increase in prolactin levels. Extrapyramidal symptoms may be less frequent than chlorpromazine.
