PHENTA Suspension contains the following active ingredients per 5ml of suspension:
- Paracetamol 125mg
- Phenylephrine 2.5mg
- Chlorpheniramine Maleate (CPM) 2mg
Indications / Uses :
PHENTA Suspension is commonly used for the treatment of:
- Cold symptoms (such as fever, congestion, and cough).
- Sinus congestion.
- Allergic rhinitis (hay fever).
- Upper respiratory tract infections (associated with common cold, flu, or allergies).
- Pain relief (due to Paracetamol).
- Decongestion (due to Phenylephrine).
Mechanism of Action:
- Paracetamol: Acts centrally in the brain to reduce pain and fever. It inhibits prostaglandin synthesis, leading to reduced pain and fever.
- Phenylephrine: Is a nasal decongestant that works by constricting blood vessels in the nasal passages, leading to decreased swelling and congestion.
- Chlorpheniramine Maleate: Is an antihistamine that blocks the action of histamine (a substance released during allergic reactions). This reduces symptoms like sneezing, itching, and runny nose.
Dosage:
- The typical recommended dose for children should be prescribed by the healthcare provider based on age and weight. Generally:
- For children aged 2 to 6 years: 5 ml (one teaspoon) every 4-6 hours as needed, but not more than 4 doses in 24 hours.
- For children aged 6 to 12 years: 10 ml (two teaspoons) every 4-6 hours as needed, but not more than 4 doses in 24 hours.
Note: Always follow the dosage instructions on the packaging or the guidance of a doctor.
Side Effects:
- Drowsiness or dizziness (due to Chlorpheniramine Maleate).
- Gastrointestinal disturbances (such as nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain).
- Increased heart rate (due to Phenylephrine).
- Allergic reactions (such as rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing).
- Headache.
- Sleep disturbances (in some cases, due to the antihistamine).
If any side effects are severe or persistent, it's important to contact a healthcare provider.
