Anti Cold ,Anti Allergic, Anti Pyretic, Analgesic, Nasal Decongestant Medicine For Pediatric Use

PHENTA Suspension contains the following active ingredients per 5ml of suspension:

  • Paracetamol 125mg
  • Phenylephrine 2.5mg
  • Chlorpheniramine Maleate (CPM) 2mg

Indications / Uses :

PHENTA Suspension is commonly used for the treatment of:

  • Cold symptoms (such as fever, congestion, and cough).
  • Sinus congestion.
  • Allergic rhinitis (hay fever).
  • Upper respiratory tract infections (associated with common cold, flu, or allergies).
  • Pain relief (due to Paracetamol).
  • Decongestion (due to Phenylephrine).

Mechanism of Action:

  • Paracetamol: Acts centrally in the brain to reduce pain and fever. It inhibits prostaglandin synthesis, leading to reduced pain and fever.
  • Phenylephrine: Is a nasal decongestant that works by constricting blood vessels in the nasal passages, leading to decreased swelling and congestion.
  • Chlorpheniramine Maleate: Is an antihistamine that blocks the action of histamine (a substance released during allergic reactions). This reduces symptoms like sneezing, itching, and runny nose.

Dosage:

  • The typical recommended dose for children should be prescribed by the healthcare provider based on age and weight. Generally:
    • For children aged 2 to 6 years: 5 ml (one teaspoon) every 4-6 hours as needed, but not more than 4 doses in 24 hours.
    • For children aged 6 to 12 years: 10 ml (two teaspoons) every 4-6 hours as needed, but not more than 4 doses in 24 hours.

Note: Always follow the dosage instructions on the packaging or the guidance of a doctor.

Side Effects:

  • Drowsiness or dizziness (due to Chlorpheniramine Maleate).
  • Gastrointestinal disturbances (such as nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain).
  • Increased heart rate (due to Phenylephrine).
  • Allergic reactions (such as rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing).
  • Headache.
  • Sleep disturbances (in some cases, due to the antihistamine).

If any side effects are severe or persistent, it's important to contact a healthcare provider.

Contra-Indications:

PHENTA Suspension should not be used in the following situations:

  • Hypersensitivity or allergy to any of the active ingredients (Paracetamol, Phenylephrine, or Chlorpheniramine Maleate).
  • Severe liver or kidney disease (due to Paracetamol).
  • Glaucoma (due to Phenylephrine).
  • Severe hypertension (high blood pressure).
  • Heart disease (especially due to the Phenylephrine component).
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Consult a doctor before use.
  • Children under 2 years of age.

Drug Interactions:

PHENTA Suspension may interact with the following drugs:

  • Other antihistamines: May increase sedative effects.
  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs): When taken with Phenylephrine, it may lead to an increase in blood pressure or other serious cardiovascular effects.
  • Antihypertensive drugs: Phenylephrine may reduce the effectiveness of blood pressure-lowering medications.
  • Alcohol: Can increase drowsiness and sedation when taken with Chlorpheniramine.
  • Other pain medications (including NSAIDs like ibuprofen) with Paracetamol may lead to increased risk of liver damage.
