Cefixime dry syrup (50 mg/5 ml) is an effective antibiotic used to treat a range of bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, ear infections, urinary tract infections, and gonorrhea.

It is effective in infections of the respiratory tract (eg. pneumonia), urinary tract, ear, nasal sinus, throat, and some sexually transmitted diseases.

Mechanism of Action of Rovixim Dry Syrup:

Cefixime belongs to the class of antibiotics known as third-generation cephalosporins. It works by interfering with the formation of the bacteria's cell walls, thereby inhibiting their growth and reproduction. This action ultimately leads to the bacteria's death.

Side Effects of Cefixime Dry Syrup:

  • Common side effects may include diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, and rash.

  • Serious side effects can include allergic reactions (e.g., severe rash, difficulty breathing), liver problems, and certain types of kidney problems.

  • Long-term use or misuse may lead to bacterial resistance.

Contraindications of Rovixim Dry Syrup:

  • Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics (including penicillin allergy).

  • Use with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal diseases, particularly colitis.

Drug Interactions of Rovixim Dry Syrup:

  • Cefixime may interact with medications that affect kidney function or those that interfere with the metabolism of the liver.

  • Concurrent use with certain drugs, such as probenecid, may prolong the action of cefixime by delaying its excretion.

  • Always inform healthcare providers about all medications being taken to avoid potential interactions.

Dosage:

  • The dosage of Cefixime dry syrup (50 mg/5 ml) varies based on the type and severity of the infection, as well as the patient's age and weight.

  • Typical dosages for children are based on body weight and are prescribed by a healthcare provider.

  • Adults and adolescents may be prescribed different formulations (e.g., tablets or capsules) with higher concentrations.
