ZOYA Shampoo

ZOYA Shampoo (Ketoconazole 2% w/v) is primarily used as an antifungal shampoo for the treatment of various scalp conditions.

Use:

  • ZOYA Shampoo is a medicated shampoo formulated with 2% Ketoconazole, used to treat fungal infections on the scalp, including:

    • Dandruff (Seborrheic Dermatitis)

    • Tinea capitis (scalp ringworm)

    • Pityriasis versicolor (a fungal infection that causes discolored patches of skin)

It can also be used to manage conditions like seborrheic dermatitis and dandruff caused by fungal overgrowth on the scalp.

Indications:

  • Seborrheic Dermatitis: Inflammation of the scalp skin, resulting in dandruff, itching, and scaling.

  • Tinea Capitis: Fungal infection of the scalp, leading to hair loss and scaling.

  • Pityriasis Versicolor: Fungal infection causing light or dark patches on the skin.

  • General antifungal therapy for the scalp to reduce itching and scaling.

Mechanism of Action:

  • Ketoconazole, the active ingredient, is an antifungal agent that works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of fungal cell membranes. This disruption weakens the membrane, leading to fungal cell death.

  • It is effective against a broad spectrum of fungal organisms, including Malassezia species, which are commonly associated with dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis.

Side Effects:

Although ZOYA Shampoo is typically well-tolerated, some side effects may occur:

  • Common side effects:

    • Scalp irritation or itching

    • Dryness or oily scalp

    • Burning sensation or stinging at the site of application

  • Less common but serious side effects:

    • Allergic reactions (rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing)

    • Hair loss (temporary)

    • Contact dermatitis (skin irritation)

If side effects are severe or persist, consult a healthcare professional.

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to Ketoconazole or any of the ingredients in the shampoo.

  • Open wounds or damaged skin: Avoid applying to broken skin or areas with open sores.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Consult a healthcare provider before use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

Drug Interactions:

While ZOYA Shampoo is not absorbed systemically in significant amounts, potential interactions could arise with other medications if used on large areas of the skin or over prolonged periods. Some potential interactions may include:

  • Corticosteroids: Concurrent use with topical steroids could lead to skin thinning.

  • Cyclosporine: Topical ketoconazole may interact with cyclosporine, affecting the metabolism of the drug.

  • Other antifungals: Concurrent use with systemic antifungals should be avoided unless prescribed by a healthcare provider.
