Esomeprazole Injection
It works by decreasing the amount of acid produced by the stomach. Esomeprazole is one of the two stereo-enantiomers in omeprazole. Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that suppresses gastric acid secretion by specific inhibition of the H+/K+-ATPase in the gastric perietal cell.
Indications of Esomeprazole 40 Inj :
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease
- Healing and maintenance of healed erosive oesophagitis,
- Eradication of Helicobacter pylori in combination with appropriate antibacterial regimens.
- Gastic Ulcer
- Duodenal Ulcer Release
- Zolinger Elison Syndrom
- Gastro Esophegal Reflux Disease
- Esomeprazole is used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other conditions involving excessive stomach acid such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Esomeprazole is also used to promote healing of erosive esophagitis (damage to your esophagus caused by stomach acid).
Dosage of Esomeprazole 40 Inj :
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease, healing of erosive esophagitis : 20mg or 40mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks.
- Maintenance of healing of erosive esophagitis :20 mg once daily.
- Symptomatic gastroesophageal reflux : 20mg once daily for 4 weeks.
- H. pylori eradication to reduce the risk of duodenal ulcer recurrence : Esomeprazole 40mg once daily with amoxicillin 1g twice daily and clarithromycin 500mg twice daily for 10 days.
Contra-Indications of Esomeprazole 40 Inj :
- Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions of Esomeprazole 40 Inj :
- Nursing mothers, pediatric patients, for patients with severe liver impairment, a dose of 20mg of esomeprazole should not be exceeded, pregnancy.
Side Effects of Esomeprazole 40 Inj :
- Headache, diarrhea
- abdominal pain
- nausea
- flatulence
- dry mouth
- constipation
- increased creatinine, uric acid
- , increased or decreased hemoglobin, white blood cell count, platelets,
- increased bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase, ALT, AST,
- hypokalemia,
- hyponatremia,
- hyperkalemia,
- hypernatremia,
- altered thyroid function tests.
Drug Interactions of Esomeprazole 40 Inj :
- Esomeprazole may interfere with the absorption of drugs where gastric pH is an important determinant of bioavailability e.g., ketoconazole, iron salts and digoxin.
