Use and Indications of Ceftriaxone 1 gm Injection:
- Use: Ceftriaxone is primarily used to treat bacterial infections.
- Indications: It is indicated for a wide range of infections caused by susceptible organisms, including:
- Respiratory tract infections (e.g., pneumonia)
- Urinary tract infections
- Typhoid
- Surgical Prophylaxis
- Post Surgical Infections
- Syphilis
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Bone and joint infections
- Gonorrhea
- Sexual Transmitted Disease
- Appendicitis (Complicated By Rupture Or Abscess)
- Intra-abdominal infections
- Meningitis
- Gonorrhea
- Lyme disease (early stage)

Mechanism of Action of Ceftriaxone Inj:
- Ceftriaxone inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which inhibits the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis in bacterial cell walls. This leads to cell wall lysis and death of the bacteria.

Contraindications of Ceftriaxone Inj:
- Ceftriaxone is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or penicillins due to the risk of cross-reactivity.
Dosage of Ceftriaxone Inj:
1 Or 2 Gm given once a day. The total daily dose should not exceed 4 grams.
Drug Interactions of Ceftriaxone Inj:
- Probenecid: Can increase and prolong ceftriaxone levels in the blood by decreasing its elimination.
- Calcium-containing solutions: Should not be mixed or given simultaneously with ceftriaxone in neonates (under 28 days of age) due to the potential for precipitation leading to fatal lung complications.
