Sertraline Hydrochloride 100 mg { FC } Tablets
SERTRALINE HYDROCHLORIDE
It belongs to the class of SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) drug but is unrelated to other SSRIs. It is chemically unrelated to tricyclic, tetracyclic depressants. The mechanism of action is inhibition of CNS neuronal uptake of serotonin (5HT).
Indications of SERTRALINE
Major depressive disorder. Obsessions and compulsion in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder.
Dosage of SERTRALINE
In depression & OCD: 50 mg once daily. Panic disorder: Initially 25 mg once daily and after 1 week 50 mg daily. Maximum dosage: 200 mg/day.
Contra-Indications of SERTRALINE
Hypersensitivity, liver disease, MAOIs.
Special Precautions of SERTRALINE
Stop MAOI therapy at least 2 week prior to starting of sertraline. Renal/hepatic impairment, acute coronary syndromes, seizure disorders, concomitant use of alcohol. Paediatrics: Safety below 16 yrs not established. Pregnancy: Use if potential benefits outweigh the risk. Lactation: Use with cautions. Elderly: No special risk.
Side Effects of SERTRALINE
Dry mouth, nausea, stomach upset, diarrhoea, tremor, sweating, dizziness, sleeplessness, indigestion.
Drug Interactions of SERTRALINE
Warfarin, digoxin, cimetidine, lithium, MAOIs, tricyclic antidepressants, hypoglycaemic drugs, antipyrine, alcohol.
