GAMBOI M TABLET

Each Film Coated Tablet Contains: Vildagliptin 50 mg, Metformin HCL IP  500 mg

Vildagliptin 50 mg and Metformin 500 mg tablets are commonly used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Use and Indication of Metformin with Vildagliptin (GAMBOI M TABLET):

  1. Use: These tablets are used to control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

  2. Indication: They are prescribed when diet, exercise, and a single antidiabetic medication (like metformin) are not sufficient to control blood glucose levels adequately.

Mechanism of Action of Metformin with Vildagliptin (GAMBOI M TABLET):

  • Vildagliptin: It belongs to the class of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors. DPP-4 inhibitors work by preventing the breakdown of incretin hormones, which increase insulin release and decrease glucagon levels after meals, thereby reducing blood sugar levels.

  • Metformin: It belongs to the biguanide class of antidiabetic medications. It works primarily by decreasing glucose production in the liver and improving insulin sensitivity in the body's tissues.

Side Effects of Metformin with Vildagliptin (GAMBOI M TABLET):

  • Common side effects may include nausea, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, headache, and hypoglycemia (especially if used with other antidiabetic medications).

  • Rare but serious side effects can include lactic acidosis (more common with metformin, especially in patients with kidney dysfunction), pancreatitis (rare), and allergic reactions.

Contraindications of Metformin with Vildagliptin (GAMBOI M TABLET):

  • Contraindications include hypersensitivity to vildagliptin, metformin, or any components of the tablet.

  • It should not be used in patients with severe renal impairment (metformin contraindicated if eGFR <30 mL/min/1.73m²).

Drug Interactions of Metformin with Vildagliptin (GAMBOI M TABLET):

  • Metformin: Potential interactions include medications that can affect renal function (e.g., NSAIDs, diuretics) and drugs that interfere with its clearance (e.g., cimetidine).

  • Vildagliptin: Few significant drug interactions reported; caution advised with other antidiabetic medications.

Dosage:

  • The usual adult dosage of Vildagliptin 50 mg and Metformin 500 mg tablets is typically one tablet taken twice daily, preferably with meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin.

How Metformin with Vildagliptin (GAMBOI M TABLET) Works

Metformin + Vildagliptin is a combination of two antidiabetic medicines:

Metformin and Vildagliptin. Metformin is an anti-diabetic medication (biguanide). It works by lowering glucose production in the liver, delaying glucose absorption from intestines and increasing the body's sensitivity to insulin. Vildagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor which works by increasing the release of insulin from the pancreas and decreasing the hormones that raise blood sugar levels. This reduces both fasting and postmeal sugar levels. Together, they provide better control of blood sugar.
