WEEVA Lotion (Permethrin 5% W/V)

Permethrin lotion is a medication primarily used to treat scabies and lice infestations in humans.

Indications:

  • Scabies: A skin infestation caused by the Sarcoptes scabiei mite, leading to intense itching and a pimple-like skin rash.

  • Lice Infestations: Effective against head lice and pubic lice (crab lice).

Mechanism of Action:

  • Permethrin, a synthetic pyrethroid, disrupts the sodium channel current in nerve cell membranes of insects and mites. This disruption leads to paralysis and death of the parasites, effectively eliminating the infestation.

Dosage:

  • Scabies:

    • Apply the lotion thoroughly over the entire body from the neck down.

    • Leave it on for 8–14 hours before washing off.

    • A second application may be necessary after 7 days.

  • Head Lice:

    • Apply to the scalp, ensuring all hair is covered.

    • Leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse off with water.

  • Pubic Lice:

    • Apply to affected areas, leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse off.

Side Effects:

  • Note: If any of these side effects occur, discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional promptly.

  • Children: Not recommended for use in children under 2 months of age.
