WEEVA Soap (Permethrin 1 % w/w,TFM 76 %,Grade 1)

  • Permethrin soap is a topical medication primarily used for its insecticidal properties.

  • Permethrin soap is an effective topical treatment for scabies and other parasitic infestations.

  • Permethrin soap typically used for treating scabies and lice infestations.

Indications:

  • Scabies: Permethrin 1% is often used to treat scabies, a skin condition caused by a mite infestation that causes itching and rashes.

  • Head Lice: Permethrin is also used as a topical treatment for head lice, which are small parasitic insects that live in the hair and scalp, causing itching.

Mechanism of Action:

  • Permethrin is a pyrethroid (a synthetic chemical related to pyrethrins, which are derived from chrysanthemum flowers). It works by disrupting the nervous system of the insects. It binds to the sodium channels on the nerve cells of the lice and mites, preventing them from functioning properly. This results in paralysis and eventually the death of the insects.

  • For scabies, it kills the mites responsible for the infestation, providing relief from the associated symptoms (itching and inflammation).

Dosage:

  • Scabies:

    • Apply WEEVA Soap (or a similar Permethrin-based product) to the affected areas, covering the skin from the neck down, including under the nails, and leave it on for about 8–12 hours before rinsing off.

    • Repeat the treatment in 7–14 days if necessary.

  • Head Lice:

    • Wet the hair and scalp and apply the soap or cream thoroughly.

    • Leave it on for 10 minutes, then rinse. You may need to repeat the treatment after 7–10 days to ensure all lice and nits are eradicated.

Side Effects:

  • Common side effects:

    • Skin irritation (redness, itching, burning)

    • Dryness or peeling of the skin

  • Serious side effects (rare but possible):

    • Severe allergic reactions (swelling, rash, difficulty breathing)

    • Eye irritation (if the soap comes into contact with eyes)

  • If any of these occur, it is important to stop use and consult a healthcare professional.

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity or Allergy to Permethrin or any component of the soap (individuals who have had an allergic reaction to Permethrin in the past should avoid it).

  • Infants under 2 months of age: Permethrin should not be used for treating scabies in infants younger than 2 months.

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: While Permethrin is generally considered safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, consult your healthcare provider before use, especially if you are in the first trimester.

Drug Interactions:

  • Other topical treatments: Be cautious when using multiple topical products, as they may interact or cause skin irritation.

  • No known systemic drug interactions: Since Permethrin is used topically, it is not usually absorbed into the bloodstream in significant amounts, and therefore, systemic drug interactions are not a major concern.

  • Always inform your healthcare provider about other medications or treatments you are using, especially if you have sensitive skin or are on long-term topical treatments.
