Composition:
Each Uncoated Dispersible Tablet Contains Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 mg Dispersible Tablets.

Spinxo 200 DT Tablet contains Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 mg as the active ingredient, which is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It's commonly used for treating bacterial infections.

Uses/Indications:

Spinxo 200 DT tablet is primarily prescribed for the treatment of bacterial infections, including:

  • Respiratory tract infections (e.g., pneumonia, bronchitis)

  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

  • Skin and soft tissue infections

  • Sinusitis

  • Pharyngitis and tonsillitis

  • Otitis media (middle ear infections)

  • Gonorrhea (urinary and genital infections caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae)

Mechanism of Action:

Cefpodoxime is a cephalosporin antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to specific proteins (penicillin-binding proteins) on the bacterial cell wall, disrupting its formation and leading to the rupture of the cell, thereby killing the bacteria.

Dosage:

  • Adult Dosage: 200 mg once or twice daily depending on the severity and type of infection.

  • Pediatric Dosage: The dosage varies depending on the child’s weight and infection type. Usually, 5–10 mg/kg daily is recommended.

  • Duration of Treatment: Typically ranges from 5 to 10 days, depending on the infection being treated.

Side Effects:

Some potential side effects of Spinxo 200 DT (Cefpodoxime) include:

  • Common side effects:

    • Diarrhea

    • Nausea

    • Vomiting

    • Abdominal pain

  • Serious side effects (rare):

    • Allergic reactions (e.g., rashes, itching, swelling, difficulty breathing)

    • Seizures (in rare cases)

    • Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (pseudomembranous colitis)

    • Liver enzyme changes (elevated ALT, AST)

    • Kidney issues (especially in patients with pre-existing kidney disease)

If any severe allergic reactions or unusual side effects occur, medical attention should be sought immediately.

Contraindications:

Cefpodoxime (Spinxo 200 DT) should not be used in the following conditions:

  • Allergy to Cephalosporins: If the patient is allergic to cefpodoxime, other cephalosporins, or penicillin antibiotics, it should be avoided.

  • Severe renal impairment: If the patient has significantly reduced kidney function, dosage adjustments may be needed or the drug should be avoided.

Drug Interactions:

  • Antacids containing aluminum, magnesium, or calcium may reduce the absorption of cefpodoxime.

  • Probenecid may increase the plasma levels of cefpodoxime by inhibiting its excretion through the kidneys.

  • Other antibiotics: Combination with other antibiotics may either increase the risk of adverse effects or interfere with each other’s effectiveness.
