The Touch Combination For Tougher Situations

Shows Greater Tissue Penetration Then Cefixime

Composition:
Each Film Coated Tablet Contains
Cefpodoxime 200 mg,Clavulanic Acid 125 mg Tablet

Spinxo Clav Tablet contains Cefpodoxime (200 mg) and Clavulanic Acid (125 mg). This combination is used to treat infections caused by bacteria that are sensitive to cefpodoxime, particularly those that may be resistant to other antibiotics due to the presence of beta-lactamase enzymes. The clavulanic acid in the tablet helps inhibit these enzymes, allowing cefpodoxime to work more effectively.

Uses/Indications:

Spinxo Clav Tablet is commonly prescribed for:

  • Respiratory tract infections: such as pneumonia, bronchitis, and sinusitis.
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs): caused by susceptible bacteria.
  • Skin and soft tissue infections: caused by susceptible bacteria.
  • Ear infections (otitis media): often used in pediatric patients.
  • Other bacterial infections: that are susceptible to cefpodoxime and clavulanic acid combination.
  • Excellent Coverage Against Gram +Ve And Gram –Ve Pathogens
  • Kills Even ESBL Producing Pathogens

Mechanism of Action:

  • Cefpodoxime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, leading to the death of the bacteria.
  • Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. It prevents certain bacteria from breaking down cefpodoxime (or other antibiotics in the same class), thus enhancing the efficacy of cefpodoxime against bacteria that produce beta-lactamase, an enzyme that renders many beta-lactam antibiotics ineffective.

Dosage:

  • For adults: Generally, the usual dosage is one tablet (200 mg cefpodoxime + 125 mg clavulanic acid) taken orally every 12 hours.
  • For children: The dose depends on the child's weight, age, and the type of infection being treated. Always consult a healthcare provider for the correct dosage.

Side Effects:

Common side effects may include:

  • Gastrointestinal issues: such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
  • Allergic reactions: rash, itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing (anaphylaxis in rare cases).
  • Skin reactions: like rashes or itching.
  • Liver effects: such as elevated liver enzymes, jaundice (in rare cases).
  • Yeast infections: due to the disturbance of normal bacteria.
  • Hematologic reactions: such as thrombocytopenia (low platelet count) or neutropenia (low white blood cell count).

Contraindications:

Spinxo Clav is contraindicated in the following situations:

  • Hypersensitivity to cefpodoxime, clavulanic acid, other cephalosporins, or any of the components of the tablet.
  • History of severe allergic reactions (e.g., anaphylaxis) to penicillin or cephalosporins.
  • Severe liver disease or jaundice.
  • Renal impairment: In patients with severe kidney issues, the dosage should be adjusted, and close monitoring is needed.

Drug Interactions:

Some drugs may interact with Spinxo Clav:

  • Probenecid: May increase the levels of cefpodoxime in the blood.
  • Anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin): Increased risk of bleeding.
  • Other antibiotics: Combining with other antibiotics may alter effectiveness or increase side effects.
  • Diuretics (e.g., furosemide): May increase the risk of kidney toxicity, especially in those with pre-existing kidney issues.
