XYRODOX LB CAPSULES is an antibiotic medicine used to treat bacterial infections in your body. It is effective in some infections of the lungs, urinary tract, eyes, and others. It kills bacteria, which helps to improve your symptoms and cure the infection. It may also be used for the treatment of severe acne.

Use / Indications:

  • Doxycycline is an antibiotic belonging to the tetracycline group, used for treating bacterial infections like respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, acne, Lyme disease, and others,

  • Lactic Acid Bacillus is a probiotic that helps restore the balance of beneficial bacteria in the gut, often used to prevent or treat diarrhea associated with antibiotic use, digestive disorders, and to improve gut health.

Mechanism of Action:

  • Doxycycline works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. It binds to the bacterial ribosome, preventing the formation of essential proteins required for bacterial growth and reproduction. It has broad-spectrum activity against many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

  • Lactic Acid Bacillus promotes the growth of healthy gut bacteria (such as Lactobacillus), which can help to restore the normal gut flora disrupted by antibiotic use or gastrointestinal issues.

Dosage:

  • The usual dosage for Doxycycline is 100 mg once or twice daily, depending on the condition being treated. However, the exact dosage should be determined by a healthcare provider.

  • The dosage of Lactic Acid Bacillus typically comes in the form of daily capsules with 5 billion spores, but this also varies by the brand.

Always follow the prescribed dosage instructions from your healthcare provider.

Side Effects:

Common side effects of Doxycycline:

  • Nausea and vomiting

  • Diarrhea

  • Sensitivity to sunlight (photosensitivity)

  • Esophageal irritation

Common side effects of Lactic Acid Bacillus (probiotics):

  • Rarely, it can cause infections in immunocompromised individuals.

Contraindications:

  • Doxycycline:

    • Hypersensitivity to tetracyclines.

    • Not recommended during pregnancy (especially in the second and third trimesters) as it can affect fetal bone development and teeth discoloration.

    • Children under 8 years old (due to risks of teeth discoloration and possible bone growth impairment).

  • Lactic Acid Bacillus:

    • Should not be used in patients with compromised immune systems unless advised by a doctor.

    • Allergic reactions to any of the components of the capsule should be avoided.

Drug Interactions:

  • Doxycycline can interact with:

    • Antacids containing aluminum, calcium, or magnesium (reduces effectiveness).

    • Warfarin (increases bleeding risk).

    • Oral contraceptives (may reduce effectiveness, and alternative contraception methods should be used).

    • Antiepileptic drugs (such as phenytoin, carbamazepine) may reduce doxycycline levels.

  • Lactic Acid Bacillus generally has fewer interactions but should be used cautiously with antibiotics, as simultaneous use might reduce the efficacy of both treatments in certain cases.
