The Time Bound Effect In Severe And Moderate Infections, Offer Least Resistance Chances.
STAXCEF 500 is a brand name for a medication that contains Cefuroxime 500 mg as the active ingredient. Cefuroxime is a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections.
Uses / Indications:
Cefuroxime is used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria. Some common indications include:
-
Respiratory tract infections: Such as pneumonia, bronchitis, and sinusitis.
-
Urinary tract infections (UTIs).
-
Skin and soft tissue infections.
-
Bone and joint infections.
-
Gonorrhea (a sexually transmitted infection).
-
Ear infections (otitis media).
-
Meningitis (in some cases, based on physician recommendation).
Dosage:
The dosage of STAXCEF 500 (Cefuroxime 500 mg) depends on the type and severity of the infection:
-
Adults: Typically, 500 mg twice daily.
-
Children: The dosage varies based on age, weight, and the severity of the infection. It’s usually given as 250 mg to 500 mg per day, split into two doses.
Always follow the instructions provided by your healthcare provider. Never self-adjust the dosage without consulting them.
Mechanism of Action:
Cefuroxime, like other cephalosporins, works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) on the bacterial cell wall, disrupting its structure and leading to the death of the bacteria. It has a broad spectrum of activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
Side Effects:
While STAXCEF 500 is generally well-tolerated, it may cause some side effects. Common side effects include:
-
Gastrointestinal: Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and dyspepsia.
-
Allergic reactions: Rash, itching, swelling, or severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis).
-
Hematologic: Rarely, blood disorders like thrombocytopenia (low platelet count) or eosinophilia (high eosinophil count).
-
Liver: Elevated liver enzymes.
-
Renal: Changes in kidney function may occur in rare cases.
-
CNS: Headache, dizziness, and confusion.
If you experience severe side effects, such as a persistent rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
Contraindications:
You should not use STAXCEF 500 if you have any of the following conditions:
-
Hypersensitivity (allergic reactions) to Cefuroxime, cephalosporins, or penicillin.
-
Severe renal impairment (unless closely monitored by a healthcare professional).
History of allergic reactions to any cephalosporins or penicillin antibiotics.
Drug Interactions:
-
Probenecid: Probenecid can increase the concentration of Cefuroxime in the blood by reducing its elimination.
-
Antacids: These can reduce the absorption of Cefuroxime, especially if taken simultaneously.
-
Amino glycosides: Concomitant use may increase the risk of kidney toxicity.
-
Warfarin: Cefuroxime may enhance the anticoagulant effect of warfarin, increasing the risk of bleeding.
Always inform your healthcare provider of any other medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements, before starting Cefuroxime.
