Deflazacort is a corticosteroid used to treat various inflammatory and autoimmune conditions. It is often prescribed when other corticosteroids, like prednisone, are not well tolerated.

Uses & Indications of Bericort Suspension:

Deflazacort is used to treat conditions such as:

  • Inflammatory and autoimmune disorders: Rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease
  • Allergic reactions: Severe allergies, asthma
  • Neurological diseases: Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD)
  • Skin conditions: Eczema, psoriasis
  • Organ transplantation: To prevent organ rejection
  • Blood disorders: Certain types of anemia and platelet disorders

 

Mechanism of Action of Deflazacort Suspension:

Deflazacort is a glucocorticoid that works by:

  • Suppressing the immune system
  • Reducing inflammation by inhibiting the release of inflammatory substances
  • Preventing tissue damage from overactive immune responses

It gets converted into an active metabolite in the liver, which has similar effects to prednisone but with potentially fewer side effects on bone health and glucose metabolism.

 

Dosage of Bericort Suspension:

Dosage depends on the condition being treated and the patient’s weight/response to therapy.

General Dosage Guidelines:

  • Adults: 6–90 mg per day, depending on the condition
  • Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy: 0.9 mg/kg per day
  • Children: Doses are weight-based and should be prescribed by a doctor
  • Elderly: Lower doses may be recommended due to potential side effects

It is best taken with food to reduce stomach irritation.
